THE HISTORY OF METICULOUS LODGE...
Meticulous Lodge was established by Paul and Michelle Westerveld in 1995 and they pride themselves on being recognised as the leader in Stud services for the greyhound industry in Australia.
With over 20 years experience in the industry, Paul’s success has been a true credit to himself, producing some of the best race dogs, brood bitches and now stud dogs the industry has to offer.
Paul grew up having dogs as family pets from the day he was born and enjoyed obedience and agility training with his German Shepherds.
Introduced to the greyhound breed at age 12 through a successful trainer in the local area and being a sporty person himself, Paul could think of nothing better than the idea of an athletic sporting canine and from there, his passion grew.
By 14 years of age, Paul had his first greyhound called 'Super Mets' who won 9 races from 34 starts. He then was given a couple of giveaways which he won a race or two with and sold that enabled him to purchase his matriarch bitch 'Witching Time'. Tammy as she was affectionately known by Paul was his first feature race winner, landing the 1995 Wangaratta Cup and as a brood bitch she was fantastic.
The coming years Paul and his wife Michelle reared and trained many winners from their Devon Meadows property and two racing greats in Path to Power and Meticulous, which were owned by Paul and Michelle, were retired to stud and from there Paul’s dream of becoming a Studmaster became a reality.
Paul was trained in the Camelot Farms semen preservation system, setting up his own semen collection laboratory and is now recognised as one of Australia’s leading Studmasters standing superstars such as Fernando Bale, Barcia Bale, Fabregas, Bekim Bale, Kiowa Producer, Dyna Tron and many other greats.
With the growing demand on Paul to stand the busiest stud dogs in the country, it was recognised that he needed to specialise on managing stud dogs full time and with the ever evolving science of reproduction and semen collection a constant learning challenge, he is at the forefront in achieving his goals.
Paul and Michelle also pride themselves on the love and care that they give to all of their dogs and there Stud dogs are housed in the most luxurious of kennels and treated like absolute royalty, they certainly live the life of kings!.
Meticulous Lodge also pride themselves on the professionalism they provide to their clients and the many testimonials they have received over the years for their great service is testament to the way they manage their business operations.
In 2016. the greyhound racing and breeding industry is a business worth in excess of $3b in Australia alone and Meticulous Lodge are proud to be considered by their peers as one of the leaders in Breeding, Semen collection and Reproduction.
SOME OF OUR PAST GREATS...
Paul and Michelle Westerveld have been fortunate to be involved with some of the finest race dogs and stud dogs that have contributed so much to the fabric and history of the Australian greyhound industry but it is through their magnificent line of females that some of these champions have been produced.
Dance Portrait or Mischief as she was affectionately know by all that visited Meticulous Lodge, was the boss of the place.
As a race bitch she started 27 times for 13 Wins, 3 Seconds, 3 Thirds and just under $100,000 in stakemoney. She was the 2003 Group 1 Laurels winner defeating a champion brood bitch in Leprechaun Yap and Dance Portrait was also a winner of the 2003 W.A Oaks.
As a brood bitch she was sensational! Her number one son, Meticulous, was one of the best sprinters of his time who amassed $278,000 in stakemoney from just 36 Starts including two Group victories.
Her daughters are also throwing on. Dance Token (Token Prince X Dance Portrait) was the first to whelp a litter in May 07 to Bond and has produced Dawbilows Heaven (Group Finalist), Licence To Dance (Group Finalist and Track Record Holder) and the ill fated Tread Lightly.
She has now unfortunately passed away but her legacy will live on and on.
Star Witch provided Paul with his first Group 1 winner by taking out Australia's oldest feature race the Hobart Thousand. She was also a runner up in the Group 1 Sapphire Crown at Sandown Park and winner of the 2002 Ledgerwood Classic in a near track record at Wangaratta.
"Bree" as Star Witch was affectionately known, had an amazing race record of 29 starts, for 17 Wins, 6 Seconds and 3 thirds and accumulated stakemoney of $89,644.
As a brood bitch she only had one litter to Awesome Assassin and proved to be just as good a producer as raced bitch providing us with Path To Power, Witch Magic, Upon A Star, Star Warlock and Crafty Witch. Sadly on April 30th 2004 Bree passed away to a cancer but thankfully she is living on through her fantastic offspring.
Witching Time, "Tammy" or "Tim Tam" as she was affectionately known, was Paul's pride and joy as a teenager. She was his first feature race winner claiming the 1995 Wangaratta Cup when he was 19 years of age and she will always hold a very special place in his heart.
As a brood bitch she was sensational! Her first litter to Head Honcho of nine pups produced eight winners including Witch Honcho who had 25 Starts for 11 Wins, 4 Seconds and a third with $61,545 in prizemoney including the 1998 Warrnambool Classic. Witch Dance won the Rosebowl Classic, Past Midnight was a Shepparton Cup Finalist and Witchita who turned out to be a Group 1, track record holding producer. The likes of Star Witch, Prince Warlock and Magical Spell.
Her second litter was to Star Title with the best performed being Ragged Title. He had 58 Starts for 15 Wins, 13 Seconds and 11 Thirds with stakemoney of $32,780
She re-visited Head Honcho for her third litter which unfortunately only resulted in two pups being born. Time To Star being one of them and a great producer in her own right with the likes of stud dog Time Fly's who had a fantastic race record of 31 starts, 18 Wins, 8 Seconds and 1 Third with $34,780 in stakemoney. Another litter mate was Timeing who had 37 starts for 13 Wins, 11 Seconds and 3 Thirds with stakemoney of $62,450.
Her fourth and final litter was to import Moral Standards. It produced a Vic Breeders winner in Witch Curse and a great brood bitch Witch Spell, who unfortunatey only had one litter due to complications whilst whelping her second litter that caused her to be speyed and that was to Awesome Assassin. That litter produced three time Group winner Magic Trance who had 58 Starts, 20 Wins, 11 Seconds and 8 Thirds with stakemoney of $119,238. Another member of the litter was dual Group runner up Killswitch who had a very impressive race record of 34 Starts for 17 Wins, 6 Seconds and 3 Thirds with stakemoney $23,393.
Witching Time is the "matriarch" who will long live on through stud dogs and brood bitches for many years to come.
